Storyboard Text

  • By the early 1900's, Russia still had a tsar, a king that ruled the entire country.
  • The poor people and workers of Russia did not like the tsar, for he was unkind to them and did not help them during times of need.
  • When soldiers appeared and fighting broke out in Russia in 1917, many people feared that a revolution would begin against the tsar, and people would struggle.
  • Anna was one of these people who feared for her life. She decided to escape before the revolution began. She got on a boat, left her family, and set sail for America to build a new life.
  • It took Anna many weeks on the sip to get to America. The journey was dangerous, stormy, and unsafe, but Anna pulled through, fueled by determination.
  • In December 1917, Anna finally set foot in America, on Ellis Island, alone and determined to start a new life.
