After hours of health inspections and questioning, Anna was finally free to settle in the United States and find a job.
Months, later, Anna found herself work in a new factory in New York. But she received word that the revolution had started in Russia and her family had passed away in the fighting. She would never see them again.
Anna lived in an unheated apartment with a German girl named Elise who worked in a restaurant and brought home leftover scraps to eat. They were cold and hungry, but determined to be free.
While waling outside one day, Anna met a young man named Ivan who also lost his family in Russia in the fighting.
Anna and Ivan were soon married in city hall in the summer of 1919, and would soon begin a family of their own in the United States.
After a few years, Anna and Ivan saved up enough money to move to a house outside New York City and sustain their own farm, just as their families had done back in Russia. Their family continued to grow and prosper in America.
