Storyboard Text

  • Due to Siddhartha's new idea, the other ascetics decided to leave him.
  • The key to enlightenment may not be giving up bodily pleasures, but maybe balancing out pleasure and pain will be a path to enlightenment. I will not be a prince nor an ascetic.
  • There was a full moon on Siddhartha's 35th birthday. He bathed in a river, and then rested quietly in a grove of trees.
  • When he woke up, he had a strong feeling that he would be enlightened soon.
  • A grass cutter gave him eight handfuls of soft grass as a present.
  • Siddhartha walked until he came across the Bodhi (or enlightenment) tree.
  • He placed grass at the foot of the tree and sat down. He vowed to meditate under the tree until he reached enlightnement.
  • While Siddhartha meditated, a wicked god named Mara tried to frighten him.
  • He tried to tempt him using his three daughters, Discontent, Delight, and Desire.
  • He resisted them all.
  • By the morning, the young prince became The Buddha, the Awakened One.
  • He had reached enlightenment.
