The poem 'The Raven' sounds like it would be about a raven.
The Raven symbolizes the state the man is in, almost mocking him, giving him a realization. "him streaming throws his shadow on the floor... and my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor shall be lifted"
The attitude of the poem is "Sorrow," "Melancholy," and "lonely". It all is based on loneliness and the sorrow of the lost Lenore.
The Shift in the poem is when the raven enters seemingly as innocent and is accused of being the devil "ungainy fowl" to "Prophet still, if bird or devil!"
The Raven is the reason the man is up and causing a commotion. He believes that the raven is the lost lenore and then leads his thoughts to believe the raven is the devil.
The overall theme of the poem is the man is seeing this raven as an awakening to his lost Lenore. He sees himself as a lonely bird who is distraught and is in remembering by the death of a loved one. "clasp a radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore."
