Amerigo Vespucci was born on March 9, 1451 in Florence, Italy.
Even as a kid, Vespucci loved books and maps.
He began to work as a supervisor for ship outfitting, which increased his interest in exploration.

Thank you for your help. I might just go there myself now.
One day, Vespucci met Christopher Columbus and they discussed New World exploration.
Using technology and tools to help him, Amerigo Vespucci sailed the coast of South America and discovered that it was a separate continent, not part of Asia. Because of his discoveries, what we now know as North and South America were named after him.
When he came back from his trip, he became a master navigator. His job was to help other conquistadors, or Spanish explorers, sail to the New World and other places.
