This is the story of 2 boys in ancient Rome, Aurelias and Cassias.
Cassias is poor. He works on a farm to help provide for his mother and sister while they cut hair all day.
Aurelias is very wealthy. He is a lawmaker and makes lot's of money for his wife and children.
They were both caught stealing and were put on trial. Unfortunately, Aurelias was able to use his political standing to cushion his punishment.
I admit, I might have gotten a little handsy with a diamond. But if need be, I could pay for it and we could move on. You can't stand to lose your most precious lawman could you?
I stole the bread, yes, but it was to feed my family. I fear we might become beggars before the end of dry season. I promise to work hard, we just need food.
they had very different outcomes. Aurelias paid for the diamond and retained his place in court. Cassias was put in jail for 10 years, unable to care for his family.
