  • 1.Why are pandas endangered? By: Thay Thay
  • Humans have cut down the forests in which these creatures live. Specifically, the bamboo plants the panda relies upon for food are cut down.
  • One of the main reasons that pandas have become endangered is habitat destruction.
  • Over time, as more and more forests are cut down, there is far less food for the remaining population of pandas. The result here is that the pandas end up starving to death.
  • Many pandas were slaughtered over the years by hunters who once killed them just for sport.
  • Wildlife reserves have been set up in parts of China to make sure the pandas have a home, and care is taken to make sure they survive in the wild. Researchers continue to study how pandas breed in an effort to increase the population
  • The giant panda's range contracted as trees were removed in logging operations and land was cleared for farming.
  • Populations of pandas thereby became small and isolated, and confined to high ridges, hemmed in by cultivation.
