  • Where did the families of gaurds and workers actually live?
  • Where did kids that lived on Alcatraz island attend school?
  • Was the mail actually censored by the wives of gaurds on Alcatraz?
  • There was a small village on the island that some people lived in, however there was also a real 64 building. Families with kids usually lived there.
  • Did Capone actually do the laundry on Alcatraz at any point?
  • Kids took a boat to San Fransisco to go to school, with the exception being the kindergarten and preschool age children who were taught by one of the mothers on the island.
  • Did Mrs. Capone's corset actually set off the snitch box?
  • The mail of prisoners was routinely checked, and sometimes the guards's wives were asked to help. The mail was censored then given to the guards to take home and retype.
  • Did the convicts actually play baseball?
  • Capone's first job on Alcatraz was doing the laundry.
  • Yes.
  • They played regularly and kept score very seriously. The kids on the island did collect the baseballs. It is believed that Capone played first base.
