TPCASTT - Walter Heitz

Storyboard Text

  • T-Title
  • Go to the kitchen!
  • P-Paraphrase
  • C-Connotation
  • I think the title of the poem refers to how someone is involved in a group, but the others in the group didn't intentionally include them.
  • A-Attitude
  • They make me eat alone. Tomorrow, I'll join the others at the table. No one will send me to the kitchen, then. I am also part of America.
  • S-Shift
  • Extended Metaphor - Throughout the entire poem, Langston Hughes compares the life of a slave to a meal at a dinner table.
  • T-Theme
  • The attitude or tone in the poem shows how Hughes is disappointed with life in America.
  • The shift is when Hughes goes from being sent to the kitchen to eat, then to where he begins to eat with all of the others in the household.
  • I will eat here from now on!
  • The theme in the poem is about slavery in the past then freedom to do more in the future. By Walter Heitz
