In the novel Maniac Magee the characters show that you can't run away from your problems. Maniacs parents died in a train wreck when he was a baby and he was sent to live with his aunt and uncle who were unhappy and would fight all the time which resulted in him running away. He ran away to the town where he lived with his parents but only caused more problems for himself and others. He lived with the Beale family for a while which caused problems because it was on the east end which was the black side of town and Maniac was white living with a black family. Most people didn't mind but some did and gave Maniac and the Beales a hard time so he ran away again to the zoo and lived there for a while but the man who he was living with died so he ran away and lived on the streets for a while before living with the McNab family. He wanted blacks and whites to understand each other and tried to make it happen. By the end Maniac learned you can't runaway from your problems and stayed with the Beale family as a result of that.
At the beginning Maniac runs away after his parents die because the aunt and uncle he lives with argue all the time. He thinks he can run away from all of his problems.
Maniac jumps around from home to home still trying to run away from his problems. He tried to run away from the problems but creates more.
At the end of the book Maniac stopped moving around so much at stayed with the Beale family. He figured out that they care about like he's family and that he can't run away from his problems.
