  • Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter In there stepped a stately Raven of the saintly days of yore.
  • The narrator has almost fallen asleep over a tale of forgotten lore.
  • Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian Shore- Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."
  • The narrator hears a tapping at the door. He opens it, but there is nobody there.
  • "Wretch," I cried, "thy God hath lent me-by these angels he hath sent thee Respite-respite and nepenthe from my memories of Lenore!"
  • the narrator hears a tap at the window. he opens it, and a Raven flies in.
  • And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
  • The narrator starts to talk to the Raven, asking it questions, but the Raven answers only, "Nevermore."
  • The narrator starts to shout at the Raven, who answers again, "Nevermore."
  • The narrator falls into a state of depression as the Raven sits there, answering only, "Nevermore"
