The Texas Longhorn was important to the cattle industry because the longhorns were well suited for the conditions in Texas. The longhorns would eat Prickly Pair Cacti during a drought. They could also live off of little water. These tough animals could strive in cold or hot weather.
Cowboys in Texas were very tough and brave people. Cowboys would have cattle drives from Texas to way up north. The cowboys would go north with the cattle to sale then come right back to do it all again. The cattle drives would consist of thousands of cattle and only a few cowboys
Governor John Ireland made a law to make fence clipping illigal. The law required a gate for every three miles of fence.
