The Outsiders is a book about Ponyboy Curtis, in Tulsa Oklahoma. Pony is a Greaser, but is not like the rest of the Greasers, as he has different opinions. The Greasers are the poor end in this story, and the story describes the conflict between the two groups.
A piece of rising action is in the vacant lot. After Darry hits Pony, Pony takes Johnny to the vacant lot. They were hanging out with Cherry and Marcia a little before that, and now their boyfriends were mad and started to beat up Johnny and Pony. Johnny stabs Bob Sheldon and the two are forced to run away.
A second part of rising is when Johnny, Pony, and Dally find the Church they stayed at on fire, and there were kids inside. Johnny and Pony go and save them, but Johnny gets injured badly.
The climax of the story consisted of the rumble, between the Socs and the Greasers. The Greasers won the fight, and Dally rushes to the hospital with Pony to see Johnny. It is there when Johnny dies, and Dally goes out and robs a grocery store. He gets caught in the lot and gets shot.
After Johnny and Dally die, Pony is left to rest before he goes to court. Randy visits him, and Pony is left innocent after the case. He is then confronted by 3 Socs at a store, and pulls a pop bottle on them, showing how he's changed.
The Greasers winning the rumble means that the Socs have to stay out of their territory. Pony is failing a few classes, and is forced to write an essay, which ends up being the Outsiders book. It is also shown how Pony starts to pick up the pieces in his life, and start to go somewhere.
