  • I'll use my power as the Speaker of the House to get you elected!
  • In the election of 1814, the three candidates were Henry Clay, Andrew Jackson, and John Quincy Adams.
  • The Accusations
  • We didnt make a dirty deal.. Ha ha
  • Due to no one having a majority vote, it was up to the House of Representatives to decide the next President of the United States
  • The Cold Shoulder
  • Congress denies your proposal, Mr. Adams
  • Henry Clay was the Speaker of the House at the time of the election, so he used his power to convince the House of Representatives to vote for Adams.
  • The Next Presedent
  • Yay!
  • Later, Jacksons folowers accused Clay and Adams of the deal and they lost most of their support.
  • As a result of the "corrupt deal," congress turned down many of Adams' proposals.
  • In the election of 1828, Adams lost to Jackson wins due to his unpopularity after the deal.
  • And Mr. Jackson is the President!
