  • Jackson as President
  • So I just became president... How you many ask? Well I was supported by the common man and I defeated the Creek nation...
  • New Policies
  • Lets make it possible for more people to vote!
  • Time to change policies! Lets make the process for nominating political candidates more democratic
  • New Policies
  • Hey! Guess what, you know how I'm a sharecropper, well I can vote now!
  • Yay I know, the year 1828 is a great! 22 of the 24 states changed their constitutions so that we can now choose our presidential electors.
  • Jackson became president in 1828. He was voted into office because the common people voted him in there. He also got into office because he defeated the Creek nation, defeated the British in the War of 1812, and became a war hero due to the Battle of New Orleans.
  • End of Bureaucracy, Start of Spoil System
  • No more bureaucracy! With that said, I have decided to use the spoil system.
  • Jackson created a more democratic method for nominating candidates and made it so that white males could now vote. It used to be that only white male land owners could vote but that changed under Jackson.
  • Nominating Conventions Replace Caucuses
  • Since Jackson changed the policies, sharecroppers voted for the first time. Also, 1828 was a year when 22 of the 24 states changed their constitutions so that the people would be able to choose their presidential elector rather than having the state legislatures do it.
  • Jackson is Re-elected
  • Welcome to the first national party convention of 1823!
  • Jackson...you got 2/3 of the vote! You won the nomination.
  • Jackson wanted to stop non-elected officials from carrying out the laws. He wanted to stop bureaucracy. He then used the spoil system to put his supporters into a government position arguing that anyone was capable to have a government position.
  • I'm his supporter. That's why I got put into office. Thanks Jackson
  • Jackson and his supporters stopped using the caucus system, instead they started nominating conventions.Delegates from the state would now choose their presidential candidate.
  • YAY! you state delegates can vote for a candidate now!
  • Okay guys, no more caucuses! We will have nominating conventions now!
  • In 1823, the Democrats held their first national party convention. Jackson won 2/3 of the votes and eventually is re-elected back into office.
