The battle of trenton was the same battle where George Washington made his famous crossing of the Delaware river. This battle was a pivotal part of the war.
The battle was easier because the hessians(mercenaries) lowered their guard believing that the continental army was not going to strike. Later on they were completely wiped out.
The battle soon began to inspire rebellions to overthrow their british rulers. Providing more land for the continentals. This does prove that this battle was pivotal for the war.
The battle soon made the colonists take over most of new jersey giving a foothold in the war. The colonists lured the british, defeated them, and captured princeton.
The battle was fought on christmas day, 1779
