A prophet named Teiresias told King Laions and Queen Jocasta that their son will become a man; However, he will grow up and kill his father.
They got scared and gave the baby to a shepherd and told him to abandon the baby to die on a lonely mountainside with his ankles pinned together. The shepherd took pity for the baby and instead gave the baby to the childless King and Queen of Corinth.
King and Queen of Corinth named him Oedipus. Oedipus grew up believing the King and Queen of Corinth was his real parents. On day he ran away in horror.
He ran into an old man who tried to run him off the road with his chariot. The two men fought and Oedipus killed him not knowing he was his father.
Thus Oedipus theory came true and married his mother.
When his mother found out she was married to his son, she killed herself and left her children
