  • Alonzo Herndon was the founder and president of the Atlanta Life Insurance Company, which was the most successful black-owned insurance business in the nation.
  • When Alonzo died in 1927, he was the richest African-American citizen in Atlanta
  • In 1878, Alonzo opened his first barber shop. This would eventually lead to him migrating to Atlanta to open another barber shop. This barber shop lead to a chain of barber shops around Atlanta. Him and his team were even credited with being the best barbers of the south.
