  • Mexico Welcomes Large Numbers of Anglo-Americans Immigrants
  • Welcome to Mexico!  All Anglo-Americans welcome!
  • 1835 New Dictator of Mexico
  • Disarm those Texans immediately!  Meanwhile, I will get rid of the Constitution.
  • Battle of Gonzales
  • Come and take it!
  • Mexico welcomed Anglo-Americans immigrants to Texas because they needed people to keep their territory.  The immigrants didn't become loyal to Mexico.  They continued to speak English, formed their own schools, and had closer trading ties to the U.S. than to Mexico.
  • Battle of the Alamo
  • No prisoners! 
  • A man named Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, originally the president of Mexico overthrew the constitution. By doing this, he made himself the dictator of Mexico! His action to the Texans were to make the Mexican military disarm the Texans.  
  • Battle of San Jacinto
  • Sign the treaty, we want to be independent!
  • This was the Mexican Military's first try to disarm the Texans. They went to Gonzales, and started the beginnings of the Texas Revolution for independence.  When the Mexicans tried to take the Texan cannon, the Texans taunted saying, "Come and take it". The Mexicans fled after the event.
  • Texas Statehood
  • My family depends on slavery!
  • The Alamo was a tragic loss and moral booster for the Texans.  Being outnumbered by the Mexican Military, the Texan defenders of the Alamo surprisingly kept the Mexicans at bay for 13 days!  All the defenders of the Alamo died, only some of the women and children were spared.
  • During the Battle of San Jacinto, the Texan militia sprung a surprise attack on the Mexican Military.  This battle lasted less than 20 minutes!  Many of the Mexican Military, including Santa Anna was captured.  Santa Anna was then forced to sign a treaty to recognize Texas' independence.  
  • On December 29, 1845, Texas became a state, helped by the hands of President John Tyler.  There were issues regarding Texas' joining in the Union.  As Texas became a state, the issue upon slavery began to rise.  This also started the Mexican - American War.
  • You know slavery is wrong!
