  • Anti vs. Pro
  • This has always been our way, why should we change it now? We NEED slaves.
  • You guys treat slaves so horribly!
  • sometime later...
  • Differing Views
  • Oh it's YOU again... so have you heard about the tariffs?
  • Well it has caused a huge economic growth for us..
  • Yea for Northerners not for us Southerners
  • Yes they are so stupid..
  • Equality In The Government
  • It's only fair that each side (slave and free) have a fair amount of say in the government. After all, we can't have that old man and his followers taking over the country.
  • There was a huge debate over whether or not to have slaves. The difference in opinions between the North and South caused a rift between the two and also caused another debate about where the power in government should be held. The south wanted to keep a tight grip on the decision of keeping slaves so they wanted more say.
  • Georgia Platform
  • Hi I'm Alex. I noticed you were a little uneasy going into this voting booth, why's that may I ask?
  • Voting inside, fighting restricted
  • Today's title for the newspaper was about the Dred Scott Case. As an abolitionist I am fully supportive of Dred and his wife. But I don't think my neighbor is on the same boat.
  • In addition, the debate about states' rights grew stronger. The nullification crisis played a big role in this. Northern states supported high tariffs on imported European goods in order to support their manufacturing industry. The south, however, had to pay the price since Great Britain placed a high tariff on imported cotton.
  • Supreme Court's Ruling
  • The whole idea behind states entering the union was to make sure there weren't more free states or more slave states. The Missouri Compromise added Missouri as a slave state and Maine as free. California soon wanted to join as a free state but there were no other states to even it out, thus the Compromise of 1850.
  • Lincoln Has My Vote
  • He will be the new beginning for slaves and all of us!
  • He will be the undoing of this country!
  • The Georgia Platform consisted of Alexander Stephens and Robert Toombs. Basically, if the platform got its way, free states would have more say in the senate. The platform was established by the conflict over slave and free states, which was the exact reason behind the Kansas-Nebraska Act. People had come to vote for pro or anti slavery in other states they were not allowed to and it got hectic.
  • Yea i am, i just came from talking to my pro-slave neighbor who is really mad about the inequality in the government that he's willing to vote in other states!
  • Dred Scott was a slave who was taken to a free state and demanded that he was a free man, after his owner died and left him with his wife. He filed a lawsuit for freedom and it went through many courts before soon reaching the Supreme Court. Finally after many decisions, the Supreme Court ruled that he was a slave and cannot sue. This resulted in the Supreme Court ruling the Missouri Compromise unconstitutional.
  • The election of 1860 created a massive debate between the states. There were four candidates and Republican Abraham Lincoln ended up winning the electoral votes. Lincoln opposed slavery, so the south soon seceded from the union in attempt to keep slavery in their states. This tore the country apart.
