In 1923 Hitler tried to seize power of Munich but due to his poor planning he failed and was imprisoned on the 11th November.
While in prison Hitler wrote 'mein Kampf.' which means 'my struggle'. It was a book was a mixture of his experiences in the war, his hobbies, the bad state of Germany and his hate of the Jews.
The Wall Street Crash in 1929, was caused when the American stock Exchange Collapsed which caused a country wide economic depression. During this time unemployment rose to 6 million in Germany.
Anger and Sadness among working citizens caused them to support communism but rich people didn't like this so they funded Hitler's fascist campaign. Middle class people also liked Hitler as they wanted a strong government and thought Hitler would provide this.
As more people began to want a strong government they began to like the Nazi party so the Nazi party began to gain popularity. in 1928 they only had 12 seats in Reichstag but 1932 they were the largest political party, they had 230 seats.
In January 1933 President Hindenburg and Papen offered Hitler the position of vice chancellor but he demanded to be Chancellor. When he became chancellor Papen thought he could control Hitler.
