The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe

The two main characters in the story are Montresor and Fortunato. Montresor is angry and seeks revenge on Fortunato for insulting him.
The story takes place during the carnival season. Montresor uses Fortunato's love for wine to lure him to vaults where he will taste the Amontillado. The vaults are damp and dark and full of dead bodies.
The plot of the story is that Montresor is seeking revenge on Fortunato for insulting him a thousand times. He takes him deep into the vault and gets him to drink a lot of the wine. He chains him to a crypt and builds a wall to cover the door. He leaves him there to die.
The conflict of the story is that Montresor claims that Fortunato insulted him a thousand times. He chooses to punish him by leaving him to die in the vault. Fortunato laughs and then is silent in the end. Montresor then feels sick but does leave him there to die.
" You insulted me a thousand times."
