One day a shepherd boy went up to king Philip to give him a letter which he said Christ gave to him in person. He said that Christ had told him to go and preach the crusade. The king sent him home unimpressed
Because he was in such a good mood instead of going home he went to rally up children that were not over the age of twelve. He gathered over 30,000 children.
Most of those who followed him traveled on foot to Marseilles whilst Stephen and those who were rich traveled using horse.Philip sat on a wagon being pulled by a horse.
When they got to the shore of Marseilles Stephen had told his followers that sea would divide but it didn't so some of his followers got angry and started to make there way home.
Hugh the Iron and William the Pig offered to put ships at their disposal and to carry them free of charge, for the glory of God, to Palestine.
The children were guided to a person in need of slaves and ended up becoming slaves.
