They came indoors and went to Miss Stoner's temporary room to investigate. Sherlock got onto the chair and was looking at the floor, he is confused at how the bed is nailed to the floor and the bell rope does not work.
They then went to Dr Roylott's room next door, to find a small saucer of milk next to a big iron safe. Sherlock Holmes was confused, just like Dr Watson and Helen Stoner, that the small saucer of milk would not be big enough for a cheetah or a baboon.
Helen Stoner was now getting worried because she had to play an important part to help Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. She had to shine a bright enough light for them to see in the bed and breakfast. To tell them that Dr Roylott had gone to bed.
Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson head to the bed and breakfast to wait for Helen Stoner to shine the lamp to signal them.
Dr Watson and Sherlock Holmes spotted the signal and headed straight for Helen Stoner's home to wait for Dr Roylott to make his move.
They turned off the lamp and all the lights in the room to wait in total darkness until 3 O'clock in the morning. Then a light through the ventilator told them that Dr Roylott was up, and then the light turned off. They soon started to hear small hissing sounds.
