Before the invention the slaves would have to pick the cotton and remove the seeds themselves.
The invention greatly impacted the white society. They were able to sell more cotton and in turn use that extra money to buy more slaves and double their profits.
Since more slaves were working, there were also more slaves dying from being over worked. Yet the demand for cotton was still very high so the cycle kept repeating itself.
