  • My Teenage Years
  • HAHAHAHA... DUMB GIRL!
  • Come home with me?
  • Oh that would be a dream come true!!
  • That stung and took a while to separate the realization that a desire for feminine interests (dresses, makeup, etc.) does not always accompany a compulsion to attract the opposite (or, perhaps, even the same) sex at its core.
  • I did not feel a sense of empowerment from being considered desirable by men. It was creepy. In my pre-teen and early teen years, it was intimidating at times. Perhaps recalling my mother’s notions of makeup and girly things as a “call to the wild,” I eschewed all things feminine, instead opting for baggy pants, nails bitten until they bled, and black lipstick. I surrounded myself with friends who were angry and abrasive, many of them for the same reasons as me.
