Montressor is describing a plan to lure Fortunado in with wine to punish him for what he'd done.
Montressor explains to Fortunado that Luchasi is going to help him determine if this is real Amontillado. Fortunado becomes jealous and decides he would like to go and check it out.
Montressor and Fortuneado head into the wine vaults and Fortuneado begins to cough; Montressor recommends they turn back but Fortunado protests and urges to go on for the Amontillado ...And the proceed. Little did Fortunado know this was a trap.
As They went down the stairs, further into the vaults, Montressor kept giving Fortunado drinks to confuse him. Montressor chains Fortunado to the wall, "let me implore you to return..." says Montressor
Fortunado realizes that he is being berried alive and begins to try and get out, but Montressor starts to build a wall while Fortunado is left screaming, Montressor matches the pitch and volume of the screams.
Fortunado thinks it's a joke while trying to trying to shake off the rest of his buzz from the wine. Montressor finished the wall but just before the last brick he through in the torch that he'd brought with him to light the way. he sealed off the last brick, enclosing Fortunado in his own tomb of despair.
