  • The Old Man has a pale blue eye, and I swear it's evil. It gives me shivers every time I see it!
  • Rising Action
  • He heard me and is awake now, but his heart makes this terrible beating! It angers me!
  • *thud thud thud*
  • By Edgar Allan Poe
  • Climax
  • The narrator explains that The Old Man has a pale blue eye, meaning he's blind. The eye freaks the Narrator out, so he plots his revenge.
  • Falling Action
  • Everything is good, you're welcome to come in.
  • Every night at midnight the Narrator would shine a light on The Old Man, making sure he was asleep. One night The Old Man awoke and sat up. The Narrator could hear his heartbeat increasingly becoming louder.
  • Resolution
  • I admit! I killed The Old Man! He's under the floorboards! The beating is killing me!
  • The Narrator becomes angered, then finally snaps. Launching himself onto The Old Man, dragging him off the bed and pulling the bed on top of him. He let out a scream. A short time later, The Old Man is dead.
  • His beating angers me! Ahh, finally my chance to end him!
  • The Narrator dismembers The Old Mans body and hides it well underneath the floorboards. The police show up and ask to search the house; due to the scream The Old Man let out.
  • We got a call about a scream around midnight, may we search the house?
  • After searching the house, the Narrator offers the police a seat. Once quiet, the Narrator hears a phantom heartbeat becoming louder and louder. He snaps and admits to the murder.
