In the year 1652, the Dutch arrived in Cape of Good Hope in search of not expansion of Africa, but supplies to refuel their ships.
Soon after arrival, the Dutch were demanding supplies from the locals of Africa. Of course they had refused to give supplies. Because of this, the Dutch needed someone to replace the locals they drove out in order to get some work done.
The Dutch started to rely on people to get the work done. Therefore they put European farmers and imported African slaves up to the job. Shortly after arriving, the farmers had attempted to escape. As a result of this, the company who owned the slaves prohibited further expansion of land.
After some time the British had decided to ease up their harsh ways. They did this by punishing white farmers who assaulted black workers, and eventually they ended up freeing all of the slaves
Inside this new colony, two new republics were formed; The South African Republic and the Orange Free State. Since this colony was free from British rule, the white settlement expanded all across the regions. The rest of the black Africans still lived in their original smaller sized economies.
After the slaves had been freed, The Great Trek took place. Pioneers, also known as the Boers, had arrived in South Africa and decided that they wanted to live separate from the British rule. They received help from the British colony Naval.
One last thing that happened after the Great Trek that led to South Africa gaining independence. This had been the rush for gold. This was a conflict between the Boers and the British. When this event occurred, hundreds of white men rushed into the sites where gold was spotted for a chance to grab some gold. When the British gained gold, they would buy out still-independent south African states, and put the Africans to work in the mines. Worst of all, when gold was found it was given to the British to use as their own. After a while the Boers got tired of this and declared war on the British. This war lasted 3 years, and although the Boers did not win the war, they brought peace upon the
