Mary begins her education at a bilingual school in Mexico City. She speaks fluent Spanish by the time she leaves and returns to the United States. She was available to communicate with Spanish speakers at her new school. When she reached her high school Spanish class she was frustrated by the rules and grammar. Although Mary is fluent she never learned the formal Spanish language rules for schooling.
