  • The Story is introduced on a stormy winter night. The White family consist of Mr. White, Mrs. White, and Herbert. Mrs. White was knitting white Mr. White and Herbert played chess. They were waiting on Sergeant Major Morris. After Morris Arived, he shared the story of the monkey's paw.
  • Climax
  • The conflict of the story is whether or not to wish on the paw. Morris wants them of the consequences but they ignored him. Morris threw the paw into the fire, but Mr. White retrieved it. The White family wished for 200 pounds to pay of the mortgage. They got what they wanted but not in the way they expected
  • Falling Action
  • After the White family wished on the paw, it twisted in Mr. White's hand. Herbert puts the paw back on the table after stating how he'll "never see the money." Mrs. White claims what Morris said was nonsense and that 200 pounds couldn't hurt anyone. Herbert teases his father about how the money will appear. The next morning Herbert goes to work. While talking about the wish a stranger appears at the door.
  • Resolution
  • The stranger paced around and then finally knocked. He was there to deliver some bad news. Herbert was caught in some machinery and died.
  • Mrs. White took the death of Herbert the worst. While mourning, she came up with the idea to wish her son back. After she wished she heard a knock at the door. She went to answer it and Mr. White ran after her.
  • The door swung open. Mrs. and Mr. White walked out to see Herbert .
