Families in history by dyllan gregoire

Storyboard Text

  • Hunting and gathering, Families in the earlier stages of human development were dedicated more to survival, women needed to birth children to continue the tribe or hoard and men were needed to hunt large dangerous animals and protect women. Animals were often hunted and only in cases like the cow where they are more useful alive then dead, even dogs due to their ferocity and smell, of course it took a long while to learn these concepts.
  • Agriculture. Farming eventually replaced the older hunting and gathering concepts that people relied on. This allowed for larger populations in prominent locations. The roles of men and women were roughly the same yet new developments were made. Due to large and almost infinite food surpluses from farming, raiding became a much larger issue, governments were formed to keep order and determine who can lead warriors and make laws to protect their most important food from both thief's and foreign raiders.
  • Pre industrial. During the pre industrial era the concept of controlling ones fate and earning wealth and prestige through work came into existence especially between the renaissance to the enlightenment era. Men can go into banking and taking loans in hope to ensure they can live better then lives then as a mere farmer, Women typically stuck to housework like before.
  • Urban Industrial. During the industrial age of the late 1800's to early 1900's the concept of working in a factory was appealing due to the higher wages one could gain then said farming. However during the World Wars women were required to work creating weapons and such to support the war effort, even when the men returned women still desired to work factory jobs.
  • The Contemporary Canadian family. In the modern day the roles of women and children are acknowledged but aren't as harsh as in the past. Before men handled most of the hard work and women were not allowed to work like they could before. Women could work like men and as we are safer we are allowed to enjoy these changed.
