  • Your Father. Michele,...found that Belvin and Woodrow Norris were arrested February 7, 1946, for drunkeness and resisting arrest the following day in recorders court....found the info in jail and court dockets. There you go. Talk soon.
  • Michele Norris was trying to find out more about her Father’s arrest, so she called Jim Baggett, head of the Department of Archives and Manuscripts at the Birmingham Public Library, to help her. Jim sent her an email of the dockets that had her father and uncle’s arrest records.
  • Belvin Norris Jr. joined the navy, and he was in a separate program for Negro recruits at Camp Robert Smalls. The majority of blacks were assigned non combat roles, and they didn't receive equal pay or equal treatment. In January 1946, Belvin left the military with $100 and the right to a World War II medal.
