  • After independence from Britain, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Qaywayn come together as the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Sheikh Zayed Bin-Sultan Al Nahyaan presides over the federation.

  • Before oil was discovered in the 1950s the UAE's economy was dependent on fishing and a declining pearl industry. But since 1962, when Abu Dhabi became the first of the emirates to begin exporting oil, the country's society and economy have been transformed.

  • Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, carried great experience, great vision, great passion for the country. So, Ras Al Khaimah joined the federation on the 10th of February 1972.
  • On the 11th of November 1981, the UAE , founding member of the Gulf Cooperation Council had its first meeting held in Abu Dhabi.
  • On the 4th of January 2010, the Burj Khalifa had officially opened. It was known as the Burj Dubai during construction but it was renamed after ruler of Abu Dhabi and UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Al Nahyan at completion.
