  • THE GLORIOUS REVOLUTION
  • THE GLORIOUS REVOLUTION
  • In 1688, Parliament asked James' daughter and son-in-law. William and Mary of Orange, to come to England as King and Queen instead of James. Mary was a Protestant and she was married to a Protestant prince. They agreed and in November 1688, William landed at Torbay and marched towards London. James' army began to depart.
  • James lost his name and tried to escape to France, but his boat was shipwrecked. He was rescued by some fishermen who sent him back to London. William ordered that James be allowed to escape again. James fled to France, just as William wanted to.
  • The events of 1688 have been called the 'Glorious Revolution'. England got rid of an unpopular monarch and replaced him with one they had chosen without war.
