On a stormy night in the 1920's, Sanger Rainsford is on a yacht. He is a very avid hunter and loves what he does. When his pipe falls into the water, he falls into the sea and swims toward a near island where he heard gunshots.
Rainsford meets a man named General Zaroff, a military officer and hunting fanatic. After dinner and a cigar, General Zaroff tells him he has gotten 'tired' of hunting normal animals and begins to hunt humans. After much argument, Rainsford becomes the prey.
Rainsford is constantly on the run, using various means like a Malay mancatcher trap to evade General Zaroff.
Desperate to find Rainsford, General Zaroff releases his pack of dogs to sniff out and find him. Rainsford almost dies, jumping over cliffs and nearly succumbing to quicksand to avoid the dogs. He eventually makes a Burmese tiger trap to kill some of the dogs.
After successfully killing the dogs, Rainsford sneaks into the mansion, kills Ivan, and waits in anticipation in General Zaroff's room.
Rainsford kills General Zaroff and sleeps away in the officer's bed, officially winning the most dangerous game of all.
