Storyboard Text

  • During the 15th century 2 families, York and Lancaster, fought for the throne to see who belonged king of England. Then the first battle of the Wars of the Roses happened because Henry the VI dismissed the Duke of York. He was replaced by Duke of Somerset.
  • The throne is ours!
  • No it isn't!
  • The first battle was called "The battle of St Albans". After 30 minutes the Yorkist's were successful. The main thing about this battle was the Yorkist's gained their objective - the powerful Duke of Somerset was gone and demonstrated the king rules because they let him.
  • We are victorious!!
  • Another big battle was called "The battle at Towton". This was the bloodiest battle ever to be fought on English soil. Again the Yorkist's were triumphant. Edward took down his fathers head from the gates and put Lancastrian heads.
  • After Edwards victory at the Battle of Towton Edward was then crowned the first Yorkist king. This happened because the government had said the last 3 kings had wrongly come to the throne. Edward then thanked the government for their support
  • I am a proud and honoured new king of England.
  • We have won!
  • The last battle in the Wars of the Roses was the battle of Bosworth. Henry Tudor was the last hope of the Lancastrians. Luckily Richard III's army were uncertain and disloyal leaving the Lancastrians victorious of the Wars of the Roses.
  • Henry Tudor was crowned king and renamed Henry VII. He married Edward IV's daughter, Elizabeth. Although he was Lancastrian he wanted to end all fighting and bring peace between the two armies. So he made a new family emblem mixing the red and white rose together!
