  • Mexico Welcomes Immigrants
  • Welcome! Welcome!
  • New Mexican Dictator
  • We must disarm the Texans at once!
  • Battle of Gonzales
  • Come and take it!!!!!!!
  • Mexico welcomed immigrants in hopes they would become loyal citizens. They adapted by building their own schools, but they continued to speak English and had close ties to the U.S.
  • Battle of Alamo
  • Sir, we are outnumbered! What are we going to do?
  • Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna overthrew the constitution and made himself dictator. He ordered the Mexican military to disarm the Texans. 
  • Battle of San Jancito
  • If we just burned down the bridge, how are we supposed to get back?!
  • At the Battle of Gonzales, the town was gifted a cannon that the Mexicans were sent to retrieve. When they went to retrieve it, the Texans fired it and the Mexicans retreated, little did they know, it was spiked. 
  • Texas Statehood
  • We have to try and keep the balance of state slaves and free states!
  • At the battle, the Mexicans had somewhere between 1,800 and 6,000 men. The Texans had no more than 200 men. The Texans defended themselves for 13 days despite being greatly outnumbered.
  • The Battle of San Jancito lasted no more than 20 minutes. To stop the Mexicans from following, they burned down the bridge, which was their only way of retreat. 
  • In December 1845, Texas was trying to join as slave state. There was problems with this because it would break the balance of slave states and free states.
