1519-Pineda's mission was to map the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico and establish a Spanish colony. He was first to discover the Texas coastline.Cortés cut Pineda's journey short because he saw him as a threat to his journey so he arrested some of Pineda's men!
Hernando de Soto & Moscoso
400 men started out from Florida to Mexico. They had only enough food for everyone to have 1/2 handful of maize.They never made it to Mexico, instead they 80 of them ended up in Texas (Galveston Bay).Shipwrecked along the Texas Coast, suffered from hunger and had to eat their shipmates that had died.Only 4 survived out of 400!Cabeza de Vaca wrote about his life with the Native Americans called La relacion.
