Through this story board, Shakespeare employs the theme that death is a mystery.
Polonius and I will hide behind the curtains to spy on Hamlet.

Claudius dismisses Gertrude and Ophelia. He explains that he and Polonius will spy on Hamlet in order to determine his source of insanity.
After the ladies leave and Claudius and Polonius hide, Hamlet enters in the room. Hamlet begins contemplating suicide.
Hamlet states the mysteries of death are unknown. He thinks suicide is less honorable and fears the afterlife will be worse.
