Here in this scene Crooks talks to Lennie about being alone, Crooks says, "A guy goes nuts if he ain't got nobody. Don't make no difference who the guy is, long's hes with you. I tell ya." (Steinbeck, 72)
In this scene Carlson is talking about killing Candy's dog, but Candy doesn't want to get rid of him because the dog is one of the only thing he has left. He says, "Well - hell! I had him so long. Had him since he was a pup. I herded sheep with him," (Steinbeck, 44)
In this scene George is about to shoot Lennie and George and Lennie talk about them being together and they aren't lonely like guys like them, "... An' I got you. We got each other that's what, that gives a hoot in hell about us,' Lennie cried in triumph." (Steinbeck, 104) This shows that Lennie is proud that they didn't end up lonely like guys like them do.
