  • Deserts cover about one fifth of the Earth’s surface and occur where rainfall is less than 50 cm/year. There are 4 major types of deserts and they are classified by their characteristics
  • Some animals found in the desert are camels, lizards, oh and my favorites ... spiders, and snakes... certain ones though.
  • In the semi arid desert the average rainfall ranges from 2-4 cm annually. Summer temperatures usually average between 21-27° C. It normally does not go above 38° C
  • Rabbit are found in cold deserts. They have short, moist, and moderately warm summers with fairly long, cold winters. Annual precipitation has reached a maximum of 46 cm and a minimum of 9 cm.
  • The coastal deserts lie on the western coast of Africa and South America close to the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
  • the only plants that can survive in the hot and dry deserts are short shrubs and trees.
