Storyboard Text

  • During the weekend
  • In the town of Franconia, there lived a person named Billy. While watching the news, he heard something that had startled him.
  • WHAT!!
  • Residents of Franconia. The national Weather Service has issued a Tornado warning. The tornado watch is issued until 10:50 am on the 13 March 2017. It is expected to produce severe thunderstorms with wind gusts of over 40 mph.
  • Hearing about the weather alert
  • After hearing the news, Billy knew he had to plan and prepare for the event as it was a school day. Since Billy was a school superintendent, he went to the supermarket to stock up on necessary supplies and instructed all the schools in the county to do the same. On his list he bought non perishable foods (canned food) to eat during and after the tornado. He also bought bottled water to drink, portable chargers in case he needed to call 911, medical supplies, blankets and flashlights powered by batteries to see in the dark.
  • Advanced preparations
  • Preparations before tornado
  • After shopping, Billy directly went to the lower level of the one of the schools to prepare for the tornado. Billy knew that the lower level of the school was the safest place to be during a tornado. The hallways were the most dangerous as it created a wind tunnel and the flying debris could hurt everyone. Billy stocked up on flashlight, water, food, medical supplies, beds and blankets for a few days. He also had a few battery operated radios so he could be informed of any warnings in case there is a power outage. All students and teacher will be in the lower level. He instructed all the other principals in the county to follow same procedure as he did. Billy informed the parents through social media, texts, email and through local news channels about a possible tornado and that the schools have taken precautions in case of an emergency and it was ready to become a shelter as well.
  • During school- Tornado strikes
  • Seconds before the tornado, Billy instrucetd all teachers and stundents to go to the lower level of the school and stay away from windows. They were also instructed by Billy to crouch down and put their hands above their heads so that there isn't much of a risk of getting hit by debris. Students and teachers were advised to have a flashlight in their hand and to listen to the radio for weather alerts.
  • After the Tornado
  • After the tornado, as per Billy's advice, the teachers surveyed to see if anyone needed medical attention and then called the local authorities and ambulance. In the meantime one of the teachers made sure the weather was safe through the radio. One of them surveyed the path they could take the kids out. The teachers were very calm and slowly began to evacuate the building with the kids. They were careful to keep the kids away from any exposed wires or any debris. Due to Billy's effective planning , preparation and proper execution, nobody was injured and his plan was successful.
