At Toms' dinner party, Nick is reconnecting with his second cousin Daisy. Along with Tom and Daisy, they are also joined by Miss Baker. Over dinner, Tom's "Mistress" calls during dinner. Despite being very obvious he's cheating, Daisy continues to pretend to not know. We see how racist and bad Tom is during the party.
The valley of ashes is described a bit in chapter 2. It is a dirty place and described as the "Poor" area of the city. In the valley of ashes, Nick describes that it feels like someone is watching over you.
The Party at Gatsby's house is big, as described. Many who are uninvited show up anyways. Nick who isn't too into parties, goes into a library. He meets a man who is in disbelief that they have actual books. After some time, he meets another mysterious man, who tells him that he is familiar. It turns out to be Gatsby himself.
