  • Hubris Excessive pride
  • Peripeteia A reversal of fortune
  • Oedipus lack of knowledge of the truth makes him kill his father even without knowing the identity of the men.
  • Anagorisis The moment when the hero makes a critical discovery
  • Nemesis A fate that cannot be avoided
  • Oedipus pride makes him blind to the truth and doesn't allow him to realize he is the man in the prophecy. He won't listen to Teiresias when he says he is the murderer of Laius.
  • He receives a message from Corinth saying that Polybus is dead.
  • Catharsis The feeling of pity or fear the audience experiences after the hero's fall.
