<Mr. McKinley we HAVE to go to war with Spain. The newspaper said Spain is keeping Cuba captive.
Here you have The Maine. This was new a battleship sent by the U.S President, William McKinley, to help Americans living in Cuba.
On February 15, 1898, the Maine exploded. This killed 260 Americans.
Spain Sinks Ship!
People went wild from yellow journalism, and William McKinley declared war on Spain for sinking the ship. In reality, the fire sparked from gunpowder on the main.
