  • When they return to Uruk the goddess Ishtar is overcome with lust for Gilgamesh but he rejects her.So she gets Anu to send a bull of heaven down which brings with it seven years of famine. Enkidu and Gilgamesh kill the bull and the gods decide to punish them by making Enkidu die of an illness.
  • Gilgamesh is upset about Enkidu and becomes obsessed with trying to avoid his own death. He sets off to find Utnapishtim who was given eternal life, in hopes that he can help him avoid death too.His journey started on mashu mountain where two scorpion monsters guarded an entrance and won't allow Gilgamesh to pass at first but eventually let him pass them.

  • After going through a thirty-six mile long tunnel in total darkness he reaches a beautiful garden where he meets Siduri, once he tells her of his plans she tries to persuade him otherwise but he won't listen so she sends him to Urshanabi, the ferryman.

  • Urshanabi helps Gilgamesh cross the waters of death.On the other side he finds Utanapishtim who tell him he can't help him because he was giving immortality due to special circumstances and he continues to tell the story of how the gods tried to wipe out man kind but the god Ea warned him so Utanapishtim and some others escaped the storm so after when the gods realized they had made a mistake they rewarded him with eternal life.

  • To prove that Gilgamesh is weak and doesn't deserve eternal life, Utanapishtim challenges him to stay awake for seven days and seven nights, Gilgamesh fails. However because he went through all this trouble,they directed him to where he can get the plant that will make him youthful for as long as he is alive.

  • Gilgamesh retrieved the plant but on his travels back it was taken by a snake so he returned home empty handed.However he came to the realization that he has done so many great things in his life and decides to inscribe the events of his life on stone tablets so that his story will live on forever.
