  • ismine and antigone, daughters of oedipus discuss the death of their brothers, polynisies and etocles. Antigone argues that her brother Polynesias deserves a proper burial despite creon's disagreement. ismine tells Antigone the idea is idiotic.
  • prologue
  • "I will burry my brother and If I die because of it, what happiness!"
  • the chorus explains the battle that was just fought between the two brothers. they also reveal that the people of Thebes are angry at polynicies for betraying them and attacking them.
  • parados
  • "the army of polynicies was gathered against us, in angry dispute"
  • creon speaks to the people of Thebes, showing great lament about the recent events. He explains that because polynicies was considered a traitor he did not receive a proper burial and that whomever attempted to bury him would be punished
  • scene 1
  • "he is to have no grave, no burial"
  • the sentry turns in Antigone to creon for attempting to bury her brother. Antigone and creon argue about honor and the superiority of civil law over the gods law. ismine attempts to take partial blame but Antigone refuses. the sisters are kept captive until punishment
  • scene 2
  • "are you in your senses? do you know what you are saying?"
  • Harmon, creon's son, argues with creon about his decision to kill Antigone, he reveals that the people of Thebes believe this decision is foolish and they argue about creon belittling women and his son
  • scene 3
  • "I am king, and responsible only to myself"
  • "you are victim in your own self will"
  • antigone and the chorus talk about how its oedipus' fault she is fated to death and the chorus tells her she is honorable for doing what she has done. she later kills herself
  • scene 4
