  • O, I am Fortune's fool!
  • Scene 2
  • Is Romeo slaughtered and is Tybalt dead? My dearest cousin and my dearest lord?

  • Scene 3
  • A gentler judgement vanished from his lips. Not body's death, but body's banishment.
  • Tybalt challenges Romeo to fight but Mercutio draws his sword instead. They duel and Tybalt stabs Mercutio, who dies on the street. Romeo is angry and impulsively fights Tybalt and kills him.
  • Scene 4
  • When the nurse learns that Tybalt is dead, she becomes hysterical. She tries to tell Juliet what happened but the story is mixed up and Juliet thinks that both Romeo and Tybalt are dead. The nurse clarifies but Juliet defends Romeo.
  • Scene 5
  • Romeo heads over to the Friar's cell and tells him that he has been banished from Verona. The Friar tells him that he's better off being banished than dead, because his death would break Juliet's heart. The nurse comes later and Romeo gives her a message for Juilet.
  • Capulet, Lady Capulet, and Paris are all together. Capulet believes Paris is worthy of his daughter and plans to marry them. Paris accepts and the wedding is scheduled for Monday.
  • Sir Paris, I will make a desperate tender Of my child's love.
  • Juliet is crying because Romeo is banished, but her mother assumes it is because of Tybalt's death. Her mother tells her that she will soon be marrying Paris. Juliet becomes very upset and declines the proposal, as well as reveling her love with Romeo.
  • It shall be Romeo, whom I know you hate, Rather than Paris!
