After all the murders that Grendel caused, Beowulf returns to Herot seeking for revenge. Beowulf's purpose of return is to defeat Grendel without using any type of weapons in order to prove he's stronger than the evil.
The night of Beowulf's return, when all the soldiers are sleeping and all the lights are off, Grendel goes into the mead-hall and eats one of Beowulf's mans, which increases his anger towards the evil.
Pretending to be slept, Beowulf jumps and clashes Grendel. Beowulf and Grendel start fighting with a big force. While fighting, Grendel attempts to escape and Beowulf tears his arm off.
